I've just had two women whose judgement I'd trust on most issues tell me they would break-up, banish and otherwise disown in a second/heartbeat any guy that spent 450.00 bucks(did you say dollars) for a collection of CD's from one band, that's right one band, from Just One Tour... ONE! Better hide that set if you want marital bliss...

where are you buying it for $600??? i found it for only $450.

imo, with about 20 cds its a steal... why would you hang out with girls who give you advice like that? they dont seem as enthusiastic about music. my fiance is a deadhead and we both agreed that this box set is a great idea and well priced.

plus you can save music and pass it down, unlike expensive clothes that would probably out of style by the time your kids get it.

What--a mere few hundred bucks at a bargain rate of only about $6 per CD? So $20K+ spent on LPs over the years would be a problem too? Definitely glad I'm single.

Unless they are a Dhead too. I've, we, have noticed the rather low tolerance from those who just don't get it. I need more shows (CH) and there are huge differences, of course, in each of the 580ish PITB for example. Then the JGB shows and ...

I'm lucky - I don't think all my wife's shoes put together add up to $600 (other than a nice pair of cowboy boots I bought her several years ago). That's part of growing up in the former Soviet bloc - she's a bit price conscious.

true, altho you do certainly find the opposite of your experience (not commonly though), especially in the more westernized cities, such as Praha; i too have never known a woman, nor been with, who would spend $600 on a pair of shoes, or a pair of anything wardrobe related; i only meant in discussing the topic of shoes, or rather, women & shoes, with a woman, just let her have her way, it's beyond male-thinking

Mine either man, Alaska/Soviet Block probably pretty similar. HOWEVER I still dont understand why you need more than three pairs including winter boots. Definitely not a whole front closet full thats for sure

so true, i've got a pair of sturdy black shoes for whatever employment i'm at and i don't care what the 'costume' requirements are, those are the shoes i'm coming to work in, and will do just as nicely down on the docks; for all my other activities, very comfortable, quality lo-rise hiking shoes/boots; in other words, 2 total pairs, and never needed more than that since i left the army back in the '80s

Wait a minute. Three guys have just said their SOs/spouses/exes buy $600 shoes? What is this, the Bohemian Grove forum? I've never even SEEN $600 shoes. Not that I'm saying there isn't such a thing ... but I thought Naot shoes were a serious splurge. Now I see why women aren't invited to Bohemian Grove. You all sit around howling at the moon and exaggerating about women's footwear.

I take it tongue in cheek there, right? Not saying I approve, but at conservation, Jane Goodall/Isabella Rossellini "save the critters" functions/mtgs/fund-raisers, I've seen $1000 pairs of shoes, and purses, and $10k rings, etc., etc. I'd marry Isabella in a heart beat, so are you implying she's outta my league, or wouldn't let me come here any more? Or that my wife would beat me for doing so? With her $19 flip flops?

Not sure where I am going with this, but wanted to make sure you have at least seen some really expensive footwear on peeps you think are decent folk, if perhaps too wealthy (but that's why they go to fundraisers to save chimps and wild dogs, right?).

PS: is it wrong that I could not ASK my wife for $500 to buy euro 72, or that I didn't have to due to my bias? I really couldn't have come up with the courage, frankly, even if it was all of 68.

Oh yeah, it's just one of those movie star crush things...then seeing her, well, actually, she's amazingly short. I mean really short. But cute as a button. And then there's her mom--I think my wife would forgive me for saying I'd marry The Ingrid of 42, hypothetically speaking of course. Sorta like I'd forgive her for her crush on Paul Newman in the Cool Hand Luke era...it's all innocent stuff we chat about now and again ("why don't you look more like Paul?"; but I don't hold it against her--hell, I'd probably think twice about marrying him, eh?).

That's one thing we don't get much with the DEAD, ya know? Well, sure, some Bobby crushes, but it wasn't ever a huge aspect, don't you agree? Hmmm--now that I say that, my little sister did talk an awful lot about Bobby.

But I have wondered over why weren't more actual crushes on Jerry. Maybe there were - since it's mostly guys here, we just don't hear it? Or maybe it's because he was (despite himself) a sort of guru figure; not quite human enough to have a crush on.

And as a purchaser of Europe 72, I now know beyond a shadow of a doubt that Billy K is to GD what Charlie Watts is to the Stones. The TRUE heartbeat. Much more said with less.

Just having fun. Like BD, my wife could never pull the trigger on that kind of purchase. I have had to force her to buy a few things that I knew she really wanted but was too practical to spend the money on.

As for the Eurobox, we agreed it would be a special birthday present. Not because of a special birthday, just that i would actually get a present this year. By the time it arrived, she had forgot that we actually ordered it and then asked me how much it cost. The little devil elbow popped up on my right shoulder and was pleading with me to tell her that it was $75. I thought about it but decided to tell her the truth. She rolled her eyes and walked away. Although all the different covers made for a fun guessing game. I would hold one up and the wife and the kids would try to guess what city/country the concert was in. Family Geography Fun, Grateful Dead Style. None of them begged to listen to the concerts after they guessed the city....sigh....

I wouldn't be ABLE to purchase $600 shoes. I don't belong in such stores; security would escort me to the door, it would be so obvious I did not belong.

Well, but that's because you've mostly been on a sub. A few pairs of hiking boots would get you a good way to $600. One pair for one occasion, though ... for me, those would have to be Dorothy's ruby slippers. Though I believe she got those for free.

Okay I deliberately witheld information - I did pay $200 for a pair of Patagonian 3/4 hiking boots that have about 400 miles of AT hiking on them. They are so well broken in I will likely wait until I have worn through the soles before I replace them.

But I still pee on trees and compost piles.

I am pretty sure I have spent way more than $600 on blank CDs
and DVDs in my day. I tend to feel pretty good about that. Probably far more than that on jewel cases. I have a wonderful wife.

When are you all going to figure out that all of these alleged shows were recorded in the studio and sweetened with applause?

They never went to Europe in 1972. It was closed for repairs.

I'm in the good here. I just ordered Europe vol 2 from amazon for $9.99 and the original for $12.99. I saw the original at B&N for $24.99 yesterday. I'm pretty sure my gf would think even this much is too much to spend. Luckly since the songs really never change(to her)when I play my new ones I just tell her its the same old cd. and yes shes blonde.

For the most part my wife is easy on me i.e. she doesn't give me a hard time about Road Trips or the two Winterland box sets. However, she did draw the line on Europe 72. There was no way in hell I could get her on board with that one; especially when we have 2 boys who eat us out of house and home, etc etc
